Hi, I’m your prof from Indica Institute, and this is my beginners course on how to grow cannabis indoors. I’ve designed this course to teach beginner gardeners how to grow their own cannabis plants, so I hope you enjoy, learn and share. Visit me at indicainstitute.com, or subscribe to my YouTube channel to gain access to a growing list of cannabis related courses, tips, and more. I hope you find my videos useful, and please like and subscribe so I can continue making more videos like these!

BODY
Hi! And Welcome back to my beginner course on “How to grow cannabis indoors”. This is Lesson 4 of 10, where I’ll tell you how to care for your recently sprouted seedlings. For this lesson you’ll need a pH testing kit, vegetative stage nutrients and 5-7 gallon pots or a hydroponic setup. If you’re missing this equipment, you have yet to set up your grow space or if you have not germinated your seeds, go back to the previous lessons of this course and learn more before moving on. The objective of this lesson is to learn how to care for your seedlings for the next 7-10 days.

All links mentioned in this video can be found in the video description, along with a link to Indica Institute where you can find a growing list of cannabis related courses and recommendations on the best products for purchase. I’d also like to give a special thanks to my partners at FourBudz grow equipment for supporting free cannabis education. You can check them out at fourbudz.com.

In lesson three you transferred your sprouted seeds into small pots about the size of a solo cup. Here they will spend about the next week or so before transferring them to larger pots for the vegetative stage. Your seedlings are still too young to handle the power of an HID light, so it is best to use LED lighting with dimmer channel settings like the FourBudz pro3, or use CFL lighting. If you are using an LED light, keep it 18 inches away from your seedlings at all times, and ensure the dimmer settings are between 15 and 30 percent. I personally keep my FourBudz light at 30% for blue range light and 15% for red range light. Keep a close eye on your plants during this time as they can sometimes grow double or even triple their size in a 12-24 hour period.

If you’re using CFL lights, keep them at most 6” from your seedlings at all times and adjust them as your plants grow. Check in on your seedlings regularly as they can sometimes grow double or even triple their size overnight. You do not want them to burn because they grew too close to your lights. You can keep your grow lights on an 18-6 or 24-0 cycle during this stage of growth. When watering, always remember to pH test your water, and be cautious not to overwater.

It’s during this stage that you can begin to train your plants as well. While it’s not necessary for the plant’s health, it does help you gain a much greater yield at harvest, and helps control the growth of your plants so they don’t grow too close to your lights. If this is something you are interested in doing with your plants, I recommend you watch “Lesson 4A: Training your plants” right after you are done watching this video, and before moving on to lesson 5. I also have an entire course built on different training techniques if you wish to experiment with your grow.

About a week from transferring your seeds into their small pots, they should have about 3-5 sets of serrated leaves. At this point they are ready to be gently transferred to a 5-7 gallon pot.

In review, your seedlings will be in their small pots for 7 to 14 days, until they sprout between 3 and 5 sets of serrated leaves. This stage is an optimal time to start training your plants, so see lesson 4A to learn how to train your plants, or check out my website for the full course on different training techniques. Your plants are still too young for HID lights, so keep using CFL or LED lighting on a 24 hour cycle and watch their growth carefully. Always pH test your water before watering, and avoid overwatering. After your seedlings have sprouted 3-5 sets of serrated leaves, gently transfer them to larger pots for the vegetative stage of growth.

With your seedlings now sitting in their new 5-7 gallon homes, it is time to move on to Lesson 5. For the next lesson you will need a pH testing kit, vegetative stage nutrients, a timer, and a thermometer.
