I’ve designed this course for those people that would like help and instruction on how to register for medical marijuana, buy it from a licensed producer, grow it yourself, defer growth to someone else, or simply require instruction on how to complete the registration forms.
I hope this series of lessons answers the questions you have, and that you enjoy, learn and share my videos. Hi and welcome to my "Medical Marijuana" series of lessons. The objectives of this lesson are to learn how to legally apply and register for medical marijuana, what the possession laws are, and how to switch licensing producers.
Registering and applying for medical marijuana in Canada is actually a simple process involving only a few steps. The first step is to visit your doctor or health care practitioner and discuss whether marijuana is the right option for you to treat your symptoms. Once you meet with your health care practitioner, they will provide you with a medical document that you will need to submit to a licensed marijuana producer in order to register. The medical document looks something like this.
Just in case, I recommend bringing in your own copy of this document to be completed by your health care practitioner. A download link to the document can be found on my website. I’ll provide a link in the video description for you.
Once you’ve obtained your medical document, it’s time to register with a licensed producer to purchase fresh marijuana, dried marijuana and cannabis oil. There are multiple licensed producers in most provinces outside of Newfoundland, with British Columbia and Ontario having the highest number.
Each producer has their own unique application process, so choose a producer near you, and complete their application. Make a copy of your medical document but send the original along with the application to your chosen licensed producer. Registration forms for licensed producers are made available through their websites or by contacting them directly. For an updated list of licensed producers, visit my website by clicking the link in the video description below.
Now to discuss legal possession limits. How much marijuana you can possess at a given time depends on your HCP recommended daily supply. You are able to possess up to a 30-day supply of dried marijuana up to 150 grams. For instance if your HCP recommends 2 grams of dried marijuana a day, you are able to possess 60 grams of dried marijuana at any given point. Just be sure that if your 30 day supply is over 150 grams, you cap your possession at 150 grams.
As for switching licensed producers, you can do this at any time. Although, you will need to go to your HCP to get another original medical document, cancel your registration with your current producer, and repeat the application process with the new producer.
Once you’ve obtained your medical certificate from your HCP, you can grow or have someone grow your marijuana supply if you wish. If this is something you’re interested in, you can start by registering with Health Canada. More on this process can be found in my lesson “How to register to grow your own medical marijuana”
So in review, in order to become registered for medical marijuana you will first need to meet with your HCP to determine if marijuana is right for you. Once you’ve done this, you will need to get a medical document from the HCP allowing you to possess and consume marijuana. A link to this document can be found in the video description below. Register with a licensed producer of your choice, and send the original medical document along with registration to the producer. A link to a downloadable list of licensed producers per province can also be found in the video description as well. At any point, you are only able to possess a 30 day supply of dried marijuana, up to a limit of 150 grams.
If you ever wish to switch licensed producers you may, though you will need to cancel with your current producer, get a new medical document, and undergo the registration process again with your chosen new producer.
